What makes Copan Ruins unique?

Copan is renowned for intricate stone carvings rather than sheer size.

The site features deeply carved 3D stone monuments and the famous Hieroglyphic Stairway. This stairway has 63 steps containing over 2,000 glyphs. It is the longest known Maya text in the world. Visitors also see Altar Q, a carved block depicting 16 consecutive kings of the Copan dynasty.

Why do people visit Tikal?

Tikal is famous for its massive, towering temples.

While Copan highlights artistic details, Tikal focuses on large-scale architecture. Tikal features enormous pyramids built deep in the jungle. If you want to see sheer scale and tall structures, Tikal offers that experience. The Great Plaza at Copan is better if you prefer to examine intricate sculptures up close.
